Artist Statement: For my Zine project I created a zine called “My Fucked Up Adventures”, inspired by the photo album from the movie “Up”. I wanted to make my Zine into a photo album because I liked the idea of my work being in the format of a Polaroid photo. I chose to create a Zine focused on different moments in my life, and while one photo may have looked happy and carefree, I was actually struggling with mental health. I chose to do the Polaroid idea because the “happy” photo would be the front of the Polaroid, while the mental health part would be the “back of the Polaroid”. Being from California, more specifically Los Angeles, I have been around a lot of fake people who don't show up when they are struggling. That influenced me to create something that showed how keeping things in can eat you alive. For the “happy” version of the Polaroid, I did all of it in Illustrator. This was definitely the most challenging part. I have experience in photoshop, but I wanted to challenge myself. I spent a lot longer than I anticipated on each illustrator photo. Although it was challenging, I really loved it. For this project, I was inspired by myself. My whole life I have struggled with mental difficulties, although they are very common, I feel like few people get diagnosed at such young ages. I wanted to show how mental health has affected me through all my stages of life. Although I thought I would not like this project, I ended up really liking it and it really challenged me.
